STEPS TO COMPETE:

  1. Fill out registration form and submit payment - select your team number.
  2. Receive Coaches Manual
  3. Organize team.
  4. Submit 2 judge names for the events assigned to your team number.
  5. If you are new, read the additional information below, Things to Know.

Below are the list of team numbers.  Each team number is assigned to two events.  You can select the team number based on the schedule and the events that are connected to it.  Since we are experimenting with it this year, we may have to rearrange the team-event pairs if there are some events without a judge.  The team is responsible for finding a judge who will run the event, create the test or lab, provide the materials (we will reimburse for supplies, but check with us first) and score the students.  You will select 3 choices and we will let you know if it is available (based on the event.)  The event pairings are below.  (It is suggested that you select team numbers with different events rather than different team numbers with the same event pairings.)  Note that the B teams have been assigned C events, and C teams have been assigned B events.

All teams MUST register online.  Payment methods include credit card, purchase order, or check.  Schools paying using a purchase order or check will receive an invoice by e-mail for payment.  All payees will receive a receipt by mail.

Fees include:  Regional and state fee, and national membership, and one coaches manual, one regional competition registration.  Coaches manual will be mailed once payment is received.  For those teams continuing to the state competition, an additional competition fee is required.  Fees are used to cover the cost of running the competition, providing supplies and materials for the judges during the competition, and covering the cost of operations on competition day.

All teams registering must provide judges for two events.  You will have the option to provide this information during the registration process.  The judge will be required to prepare the event for competition which includes writing any test or lab in which the students will be competing.

REGISTRATION is now closed for 2012

Check back in the fall of 2012 for information about the 2013 Tournament.

NOTE:  Multiple teams from ONE school need to have a different coach for each team entering the competition.  One check can be written for multiple teams from the same school, but each team MUST fill out a registration form.  All checks must be made out to Florida Science Olympiad.  Please reference your school name on the check.  (Florida Science Olympiad is the organizing agent for the BARSO competition.)

Things to know before registering:

  • Fees include:  Regional and national membership, and one coaches manual, one regional competition registration.  Coaches manual will be mailed once payment or purchase order is received.
  • Your team can consist of up to 15 students and they will compete in up to 23 events. We don't need to know which events your students will do but just before the competition you will receive an email with directions on which forms you will need to have students fill out and bring with you to the competition. Other than that, no other forms will be needed in advance.
  • Use the rules manual you receive to prepare your students. The team can only compete 1 time in each of the 23 events, but individual students will compete in up to 3-4 events during the competition.
  • All teams must compete in a regional competition and the top teams will be invited to the state competition. The rules for progression can be found at the NorCal State Website.
  • You can register as many teams as you like on your initial registration. We do require that if there are several teams from one school, then the teams are assigned a number that is within a common block.
  • Multiple teams can register from a single school, but each must have a different coach (either a teacher or adult).
